Next week we will return to our grammar and vocabulary routines.
Here is the breakdown:

Tuesday- vocabulary sentences due on Edmodo
Thursday- vocabulary assignment (10 questions) on Edmodo due, grammar packet due
Friday- vocabulary and grammar quizzes
Resources to review next week's prefix, "dict" can be found in the folders on our Edmodo class page or by clicking here. If your student needs help keeping track of these due dates, remember to reference this weekly schedule and suggested plan.
Students with class numbers 1-12 have their next reading response letters due Friday, November 16nd. These letters should be completed in students' reading response spreadsheets in their school Google accounts by 9am on Friday. Here are the guidelines that students should be following for each of their responses.
The following week the students have no school all week (11/19-11/23). There will be no reading response letters due that week. Numbers 13-23 will be due on Friday, November 30th.
We are continuing our study of Earth in Space next week. Big ideas and resources for each lesson can be found here. In conjunction with this unit, we will continue to research space exploration and if it is worth the cost with Mrs. Kovacic in the LMC. We’ll also be working on some design engineering projects where students research problems with space exploration and work to design potential solutions. We will tie this in to the Cardboard Challenge for this year! Here is the information from Mrs. Wasik about this year’s challenge:
Your child’s class will be participating in Dryden’s own version of the Global Cardboard Challenge in December, inspired by a 9 year old boy, who built an arcade entirely out of cardboard. This cardboard idea sparked a movement and the Imagination Foundation, whose mission is to foster creativity and entrepreneurship in children around the world.
Students will be working in small groups to design something out of cardboard that can help solve a problem tied to space exploration. They may have some parameters with ideas as to what the solution could be, but the idea of this project is to foster collaboration and creativity. Students will also be problem solving, reflecting, and giving/receiving feedback as they design. The culminating activity will be an hour in the morning or afternoon of sharing and play with other classrooms that participated as well.
The classroom is in need of cardboard- all shapes, sizes, and colors! Please DO NOT send in cardboard that contained food at any point for allergy purposes. Examples of some great boxes- shoe boxes, Amazon boxes, etc. Please send in boxes on the Monday or Tuesday after Thanksgiving break. Many thanks in advance for your help!
We can’t wait to get creative!!
In math, my class is currently aiming to take the Chapter 3 Test towards the end of the week we are back from Thanksgiving Break (around 11/29). Depending on the needs of the class throughout our remaining lessons next week, I will update you all again when I have a more definitive date.
Next week on Friday, November 16th, your child’s report card will be emailed home. We are no longer sending paper copies. Please be on the lookout for this email and be sure to let me know if you have not received your child’s report card by Monday.
Be sure to check out your student’s recent Colony Billboards and Daytime/Nighttime videos and posted to Seesaw!
Have a great weekend!!
