This week we will jump right into our curriculum! In my math, we will begin chapter 1 of the Math in Focus curriculum, which covers place value and number sense.
In social studies, our first unit deals with the road to the Revolutionary War. In our History Alive book, we are covering Chapter 10 Growing Tensions in the Colonies. We are expecting to have our first history test some time the week of Labor Day.
In reading, we began reviewing the Notice and Note Signposts, which we will continue reviewing throughout this week. We will have a short quiz on the signposts after Labor Day. The signposts are: Contrasts & contradictions, Aha Moments, Memory Moments, Words of the Wiser, Tough Questions, and Again and Again. The signposts help guide our thinking as we read by giving us questions to think about.
We will also begin our new book for 1 Book 1 School this week! The book is called Wishtree. We will be doing the reading in class, but if your child misses any of the chapters, or if you would like to listen along, there will be audio recordings available. I will send that link/info as soon as I have it. We plan to read Chapters 1-12 throughout this week.
Within the next few days, I will be sending home letters for accessing IXL, Edmodo, and Seesaw from home. Each letter will contain a specific parent code to access your child's account.
Many more curriculum updates will be coming at our Curriculum Night this week! The 5th grade presentation is on Thursday, August 30th from 6:50-7:30pm. Please remember that this is an adults-only evening. If you are unable to attend, the presentation will be linked under "Parent Resources" on this website.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
