We are done with our vocabulary and grammar routine for the year! We’ll continue to work on these areas during our literacy block with a variety of other activities.
Students with numbers 13-24 have their last reading response letters due Friday, May 24. As students complete this assignment on Google Classroom, they may turn it in on Friday, even though we don’t have school on the 24th. Students with numbers 1-12 will have their final vlog of the year due on Friday as well.
My math class will be starting Chapter 14 on Monday. In this unit, we will cover sections 14.5, 14.6, and 14.7.
We’ll be wrapping up our reading of Children of the Wild West next week with an assessment on the final chapter “Games, Parties, and Celebrations.” This test is formatted much like the Freedom Walkers assessment. Students may pre-read the chapter in preparation. They will be able to use their books on this test. My class is scheduled to take this test on Monday.
Next week, we will be starting The Killing Sea, a novel that highlights the events of the Indonesian tsunami of 2004. Students will have time in class each day to work on their reading assignments. They will be taking open book quizzes each day to gauge understanding of the text. Students will also have the opportunity to meet in small groups to discuss plot details and reactions to the story. Our tentative reading plan is as follows:
